Gambling addiction hotline: who to call
If you or someone you love needs to talk to a person right now, these lines are free, confidential and open around the clock.
National Problem Gambling Helpline
Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). Run by the National Council on Problem Gambling, it is free, confidential, available 24 hours a day and works in all 50 states. Online chat is available at ncpgambling.org. The council adopted this number in January 2026; the previous number, 1-800-522-4700, still works.
Arizona helpline
Call 1-800-NEXT-STEP (1-800-639-8783) or text NEXTSTEP to 53342. This is Arizona's state line, connected to state-funded treatment, self-exclusion and financial counseling. Details are on our Arizona resources page.
If someone is in danger
Gambling losses can lead to thoughts of suicide. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.
What happens when you call a gambling hotline
- A trained specialist answers. You do not have to give your name.
- They will ask what is going on and listen without judgment. Many callers are family members, not gamblers.
- They can connect you to local counselors, self-exclusion programs, Gamblers Anonymous meetings and, where available, state-funded treatment.
- Calling does not commit you to anything.
When a hotline is not enough
A hotline is for the moment. If gambling has been running your life for months, if you have tried to stop and could not, or if the money situation is no longer survivable, you need a treatment plan, not just a phone call. Outpost Recovery is preparing to open residential and outpatient treatment in Arizona built only for gambling disorder. Request a confidential consultation and a member of our team will reach out.
